Why ‘Item 7 Lagos’ might be the best thing since sliced bread

File photo.

Back in April 2025, Item 7 Lagos opened its doors in Lagos; no dine-in, no frills, just take-out vibes. Located at 56 Allen Avenue, Ikeja, it immediately caught people’s eyes and appetite, especially via social media and delivery apps.

Folks couldn’t stop ordering from them, mainly because the portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, and the food tastes like home.

What they serve – familiar, filling, reliable

Item 7(Go) doesn’t try to do too much, which is part of its charm. Their menu sticks to beloved Nigerian staples: rice, chicken, beef, fish, plantain, simple food done well.

A few example prices:

  • Rice + fish + plantain ~ ₦3,300
  • A plate with chicken ~ ₦3,500
  • Beef plate ~ ₦2,500
  • Croaker fish plate ~ ₦4,300
  • Sharwama with chicken ~ ₦3,500
  • Sharwama with beef ~ ₦3,300

Extras like plantain, drinks, or extra meat are available, though some items on delivery apps are often out of stock. For example, yoghurts and certain fruit drinks seem to disappear fast.

Delivery vs pickup

I ordered through Chowdeck, and my food took about an hour to arrive from Ikeja. Not terrible, but if you’re starving, it feels like a long wait.

If you want the best experience, order before the lunch rush, around 11 a.m., or before early dinner, like 6 p.m. Anything later, and you risk longer waits or your favourite items being “unavailable.” I’ve noticed drinks and extras sell out quickly on the apps.

I wanted to try their in-person experience, so I went. Believe me, pickup is smoother. They even have separate queues for shawarma lovers and app riders. Payment options are flexible too (POS, transfer, cash), which makes sense for Lagos.

My verdict

Would I recommend Item 7 Lagos? Yes. Especially if you want hearty Nigerian food without spending a small fortune. The delivery speed could be improved, and I wish the stock were more consistent, but overall, it strikes the sweet spot between affordability and satisfaction.

In a city where ₦5,000 can disappear fast for very little, Item 7 Lagos reminds me that food doesn’t have to be complicated to be worth it. Sometimes, all you need is rice, plantain, and fish that actually count.
